JOANNA
BROWN

I am a photographer based in the UK by the ocean and rural Normandy; I travel extensively working internationally.

With a post graduate degree in Media Arts, specialising in photography, I have begun to master my art over the last 27 years working first as a photography teacher and then as an established wedding and editorial photographer. I have developed a distinct style combining fine art portraiture with photojournalism and I love the juxtaposition between the two. It is this knowledge, skill and creativity that I bring with me to your wedding.

Your experience is central to how I work.  I see it as a privilege to shoot your wedding and believe that understanding and trust is key.  On your day I will be fine tuning into the environment and the individual narrative of your story.

In order to create images full of meaning and style, the soul of my wedding photography is to find connections.  I work in a sensitive and subtle way and to draw inspiration from my love of fashion editorial as well as using the light and the space around you.

Whilst the camera is not central to my art I do shoot film primarily to enhance the feeling of my work.  I also believe that shooting as a woman has informed how I see the world and a big part of my work is redefining how women are visually represented.   My ongoing process is to immerse myself within the dialogue around the  female gaze; creating images which are playful, sensitive, timeless yet strong.

Work aside I am often described as a contradiction, with one foot in the party and the other in the bonfire.  I am committed to living a creative and abundant life full of colour, vibrance and adventure, carving out an unchartered path.

Please know I only take on a limited number of weddings per year allowing for ample time, energy and space to dedicate to each unique commission.

As recommended by 'The Lane' and seen in 'Vanity Fair', 'Vogue', 'Elle' & 'Brides'.
